Yeah, I hear ya! If I only had a dime for every tool stolen from me over the years!
Vans work good for your type of set up; but I'd compliment it with a garage that you can store things in too; then you unload/load the van for each particular job. I've got a buddy that has this set up (electrician) and its slick. He can pull his van right in one bay and the other bay is filled with shelves of all the things he stocks/needs.
Alot of guys pull assortments of trailers in/out everyday.
The trailer I have on site is pretty much bullet proof.
I've also found that most thefts are 'inside' jobs. The thief knows exactly what they're after.
