The old screw-top is easier to clean, when you close it up, all the crusty nastiness ends up outside the bottle.
The new-top is a PITA and you usually have to take the whole bloomin' thing off to clean it up. But, if you like changing the oil on a 996, then the new style probably doesn't bother you.
Also, the old-style makes a much more satisfying FART sound when the bottle is almost empty.
