There's a lot of money in not-for-profits. I knew an accountant for a local church, they had millions in investments. 3 pastors, all making between $90k and $60k, with the head pastor also living in a $250k house provided by the church.

My uncle is a member of a real wacky church, one of those ones that preaches that the more you give, the more God will give you. Riiiiiiight. The pastor certainly seems to get a lot though, he drives a Boxster, lives in a very nice house, and always wears what appear to be very expensive suits.

So, while the amounts are fairly large, this stuff related to Wright isn't unusual. His church is only moderately sized, can you imagine what the mega-churches take in?
