Pumps are a good choice for that. Take it out and shoot it. Shoot it a lot. Know it in the dark. An old Ithaca 37 is a good choice in a used gun. Mossbergs are well Mossbergs. The 37 or a Winchester model 12 are great choices that will be worth at least what you paid for it, forever. Everybody on earth knows that sound. Oh and get one with a stock. The pistol grip ones make the gun unusable as a sporting gun. If you get one with a stock you can bust clays or ducks or birds if you like. Both the 37 and the M12 are classics.
