Someone asked about firebirds - I say forget those. They are cool looking (especially the reverse firebirds), but newer/reissue ones play like crap. They lack the innate balance of a proper les paul, be it a plank body or carved top.
SGs are awesome, especially ones with 60 style necks, slim and fast.
Have you ever tried a les paul junior (think Leslie West, Mick Jones, Johnny Thunders,even Keef once in a while sports one)? Double cutaway of course...

They really only get one tone, but it's a killer. Make sure you get one with a real P-90 and not the WEAK noise-cancelling P-100.
