Sales is all about communication. Matching your product and service with your customers real or perceived needs.
Role playing can help you polish your delivery to make each part of your 'message' support the whole; get rid of distracting mannerisms, features, whatever.
It is not a substitute for product knowledge or understanding your customer's needs.
Like using any other tool or skill, it gets better with practice.
