I'm definitely not a lawyer, but I do believe that legally a place like a mall is considered a public space. I remember reading about this several years ago - it's different than the private property of an individual's house, where you can enforce any kind of arbitrary rule you want, because it's your place. A place like a mall, which is privately owned, but where the public is invited to enter, free of charge or admission restrictions (for example age) has a different set of rules under the law. I believe 1st ammendment rights would apply there. I don't think they can ask you to leave if you're not breaking the law. (no shirt/shoes would be grounds, but I'm sure there's a health or safety law that requires that)
