Yes, Texas does have some major differences in the law regarding shooting someone. The right to use deadly force, is covered on many counts. In one instance, if it is dark already, you can shoot them, but if it is still daylight, you can't. In Texas, one can use deadly force to protect one's property. I know that when I went through the academy in Houston, in the mid 70's, I was really surprised to learn that there was SO MANY, different ways that deadly force can be used, without fear of prosecution. Out of my 21 year Law Enforcement career, Texas, where I first started, had some of the least restrictive laws governing the use of deadly force. It does not pay off well for the crooks in most cases.

Actually the Texas law changed last year. You can shoot a criminal day or night and it doesn't have to be if someone is in imminent danger, it can be to protect property.
