One of ours is a Husky, seized by the SPCA from a puppy mill in another part of the province. The rest were good looking dogs but showed the mannerisms of animals who had no attention. This guy was discovered to be blind (possibly neglect and malnutrition) and we figured we were his best chance. The other 4 dogs taught him how to 'be a dog'. It is great to see him with the other dogs around here (all shelter dogs). He needs to be 'shown' when you move anything, but he will run full-tilt from the barn to the house feeling the edge of the driveway/lawn as he goes. The biggest problem he had was the others getting pi$$ed off at him for running into them. They have learned to make noise as he approaches.
Shelter dogs are great.
