+1 on Don's suggestion on reading the numerous threads on A/C upgrades to 3.2L cars in the 911 forum. There are many experts that can give you good advice there. In general folks have upgraded the components of the systems along the lines of the following:

- ProCooler (better receiver/dryer)
- more modern serpentine design front and rear condensers (some folks add fans to rear condenser)
- more modern serpentine design evaporator + new blower fan motor
- new compressor (usually Sanden)
- barrier hoses for R134a freon
- other possibilities include additional condensers with fans mounted in the rear fender wells, variable speed fan controllers, under dash center vent, etc. etc.

I don't recall seeing any posts about converting '80s cars to the 964/993 system but there are lots of posts so folks may have tried it already.

FWIW, when I had my '89 I changed the evaporator + blower fan motor, added a ProCooler, replaced the (leaking) compressor, added a center vent + the variable speed fan controller. Although the system was noticeably cooler it still was insufficient for summers in the southeast. If I had kept the car I would have replaced both condensers also + adding rear condenser fans.

Good luck on your project!

Regards,
David
