For most Dem politicians I don't think they really care one way or the other about gun control. If the wind is for it then they jump on the band wagon, if the public is against gun control they conveniently forget about it.

I think that is very true of Hillary, her objective is to be elected. The party's objective is to get their snout back in the trough of the public treasury. If they have to shine on the radical gun control people on to get there then that is what they will do. Its is called expediency.
