When most people have to cram their travel/vacation into 10 lousy days off a year, there's little incentive to spend half of those traveling. . . You want to get to your destination ASAP so you can cram in all the activity into that little time and rush home.

This is a big advantage a lot of foreign countries have over us. 4-8 weeks is the standard. Certain careers are better at facilitating this than others, but for most people, you're lucky to get two weeks anymore. You're even luckier if your employer lets you take them all at once (of course this means no time off at the holidays, for kids' birthdays, etc. . .)

Just another example of how we're working busier/harder but earning less and not necessarily working smarter/better today.
