Do you still have him? Maybe your regular vet could do a "Cat-topsy" on him, so you could at least find out about the tumor. Good vets sometimes will do it just for the education of it; and it can provide you with a little peace. You can also find out if the emergency vet was BSing and maybe trying to ring up your bill a little.
