It's not like he was going to get away with anything, so not being upfront on this was just stupid. You are under no obligation to sell to anyone.
I would peeved too and make it a point in front of his new clients. Perhaps you should suggest to the buyers to find new representation.
Market being what it is, probably best to get your price and sell.
