Jeff's right, patience, patience, patience. You will be trying to un-train or overlay a new training over an old.

House training a puppy (in this case an adult dog) is really training yourself. I can't speak to training an older dog but I know with my puppies I take them out immediately upon them eating or waking from sleeping and I take them outside and I use a term, "make pee-pee", do your business" whatever you want to say, but I use it EACH time they do their business. I praise them lavishly for doing it so they associate the urge with the location and the positive reinforcement. Then as they start to get it, like my dog now, he'll go to the door we let him out of and I say, "you want to go pee pee" and he wags his tail. He recognizes the sound and what he's to do.

Whacking them or sticking their noses in it, etc is just bogus in my opinion...I think its cruel. They're living things, they can't stop from having natural urges and if they associate reliieveing themselves with being hit they will hide it in a corner, a closet or wait as long as they can until they have the runs, etc. Just be patient and use the enzyme. Repetition, recognition and positive reinforement. Best of luck.
