I've actually helped a fellow pelican or two out by looking at cars for them. Looked at a 928 once....and I dont know squat about them. But I was able to find a few issues out, similar to what you had issues with. Things such as brakes and tires and oil leaks really can only be seen in person. One was an ebay item and another was a craigslist item.

Both guys ended up buying them, but at least they were able to get another opinion other then the owners.
