With the national debt at about $9.35T, Alaska would need to sell for about $25,500/acre to pay it off. It's interesting to note that the US runs on a cash flow basis; anyone ever seen a model of a balance sheet for America?

Sure it has its extreme pockets, but overall the state is fairly balanced, IMHO. Bush carried it in '88, Reagan carried it in '80 and '84 and it's been close by the popular vote in the past two elections - Clinton did stomp Dole in '96.
