Apart from the sludge problem mentioned earlier, some aluminum BMW engine blocks had problems. BMW blamed it on the crap quality of our gas, too much sulfur if I recall correctly. Anyway, the end result was the engines needed to be replaced.
Look into this VERY carefully. There were a lot of bad V8 cars out there at one time.
