I have bought used helmets and am comfortable with a solid visual inspection that includes removing the interior lining and using eyes and fingers to look for signs of damage. Any sort of ding or damge gets a pass. Lots of guys out there have collections of helmets, like Tabs and his spoons, and they occasionally sell off to fund more helmets. I bought a RX-7 (Colin Edwards scheme) that was hardly worn for $250 that would have cost easily $600 in the store.
