The unique thing about Long Beach is that it's a large city by the beach. Santa Monica come sto mind as well and they have their problems. So does San Diego. What keeps LB from being another Oakland or Fresno is the beach property which they don't have. Nevertheless, LB is the poorest city by the number of people living under the poverty level for cities 100K+ in CA and the 6th in the US.
There are two bands of wealthy properties and the entire middle class East side, which is basically white bread. Otherwise it would be night and day with no gray. What can we attribute this lowly status? LB is more diverse than LA, last I knew.
So, those that champion diversity, here's your model. Come on down.
