Agree. LA and Long Beach are shot. I visit LA every now and then and it is too crowded and dirty for words. Some of the old bars and restaurants in the city that use to frequent are still there, which is great, but getting to them has become more difficult.
Even when you hang out with people in Hollywood and the Valley, many act like they are "so cool" and at my age I just think it is just sad. Nothing like NYC where everyone coexist; culturally and social economically.
So when I returned to Socal from living in Europe and NJ, I chose Orange County. Not bad down here and have "zero" complaints. OC has evolved from its "OC curtain" attitude, but it does seem to run pretty well (gang reduction in Santa Ana, good freeways, decent schools, decent neighbors (1:20 is a snob but we all agree their kids are spoiled), culturally diverse but not overwelming, etc.)...
I always wonder how people stay in Long Beach and prefer it to parts of Orange County. But to each his own...
