I just spoke with a fabricator friend of mine about creating a 911R replica fuel tank and he is up for a challenge...he owes me some trade work anyway. He typically builds custom motorcycle fenders and tanks but business has been slow so he is going to take a stab at Porshce tanks. I could do it but time is a factor and at this point I would rather just hand it over to him.
Now I need to dig up some photos of the steel 911R tanks. I know I have several but if anyone has any close up photos or especially measurements, that would be great!
We are going to start with a later model tank as there is a bit more meat to work witharound the edges. Anyone have one they want to donate to the cause or sell cheap?
Also debating on whether to do center fill through the hood, just center fill under the hood or leave the stock filler location. I have done a through the hood on my ST and although cool, it is kind of a PITA. Filling under the hood would be more of a PITA, but then again the stock location is not as cool.
Front fenders are out being media blasted and they will need some more minor rust repair but I won't know the extend till I pick them up tomorrow. Most of the issues are around the mounting surface where the fender bolts to the trunk flange. Again, I may be looking for some donor metal so if anyone has any fenders laying around, please let me know. They can be later model.
Some minor body work starts this week while I am on vacation but then things should speed up when I get back. I have a taget date for the first part of July!!!
