Just an update for anyone interested. The 5540i owner has dropped out of responding to my questions via email once I started asking hard ones like...What year is it? How many miles are on the car, not just the engine? And does it have the Sport option?

Turns out he dropped his price from $12,500 to now $11,000 on CL. Subsequent ads have dropped the trade for a four door truck to a trade for a Suburban and have revealed the car is a '98 made to look like an '02. It has 130,000 miles on the clock but the engine has 55,000 miles. All in all, I'm just fine this deal went away. But he did tell me it has a $3500 stereo system! Like I care.

In doing my research this car is valued about $7700 where my truck (theoretically) has a value in the mid $11K's. Oh well, its a buyers market in trucks these days so I will be keeping mine for the forseeable future.
