Are you living in the world as it is, or the world as it suits you ? Don't feel you have to worry about mercury in the oceans, but do realize that it comes from coal fired emmissions. We do effect the world, in sometimes not so small ways. It is just happening in a slow enough manner that many choose not to notice. Superficially this world resembles the world I grew up in fifty years ago. Even so, this is a profoundly different world.

For every negative you've mentioned I can list 50 positives. Is there a point here?
