After you drive through the main part of town head up HWY 89A towards Flagstaff. This will take you up Oak Creek Canyon - Gorgeous! Unless you want to head all the way to Flag, just pull over at the lookout at the top of the climb.
If you have time head back south towards Jerome. This is a must see. It is a great road over Mingus Mountain towards Prescott but that will take a lot more time. Head up to Jerome and then head back towards I-17 on HWY 269.
This can all be done in a day, start early...
