I think you should really consider Yuma. The Colorado River has water occasionally and you can do the sand dune thing,,,

Prescott is very nice. The population has a retired California feel and things have gotten better if you need employment. A few years ago you needed a masters degree if you wanted to work in a coffee shop. Stay at the Hayssayampa Inn. Splurge. The lower price rooms are basic and small bath. Take the Romance package with suite. The dining room is very nice.
