While I am a supporter of folks having guns (I have one myself), gun safety education and CCW laws, I think the guns to physicians analogy is not valid.
Guns are not tools used when a person is sick or in critical physical condition, doctors are. Doctors are frequently present in the space between life and death. Doctors cannot typically be blamed for the lives they didn't save, IMO. And the analogy ignores the lives saved by doctors, lives which would have ended without the help of a doctor.
Perhaps if one could isolate the incidents when a doctor's inaction or erroneous actions caused a death, one might have a bit better analogy. But, it still doesn't seem to work.
It's apples and oranges, IMO.
