The year was 1969, Bellville, Illinois and I was stationed at Scott AFB. I lived in the old part of town in an old bungalow type home (1870's) that was converted into mini-apartments. I occupied the dining room made into a studio apartment with a side door. My mixed breed cat, "Stanley" lived with me. Stanley was a keen hunter and protected his turf. Each day on the steps I would Stanley's contribution to his household, one dead field mouse!! So Stanley was a loyal, take no crap cat, who stayed indoors at night.
Not long after I moved in, late at night Stanley would suddenly start meowing like a crazy cat lifting his head and looking all over the room. Imagine observing that one!! I told the guy behind me about this the next day and he told me the rumor was that someone was killed in the house; a love quarrel over the older daughter who lived in the home. He experienced weird things as well, but since we were all stoned in those days anyways, just how paranoid can you get?!
It became an intermittent event late at night, with Stanley waking me up with his half crazed meowing at the walls and ceiling.............it went on for the six or so months I lived in that pad. I really wanted to see or sense more (odors, cold breezes, white mists, etc), but never anything beyond Stanley's sensitivities.
I believe Stanley experienced something on a level I could not. Cat's are indeed amazing animals and have a sixth sense well developed. I wonder to this day what he heard or what he felt..............no he never got stoned!!!!
Do I believe in ghosts? No................, but I believe cats do!
I am Bob and I endorse this true story.
