I think it's pretty sad that the VP selection has way more to do with politics and electability than competence for the job. In that regard, I think Bush's selection of Cheney was pretty interesting. No one ever called Cheney inexperienced. And no one ever thought he had the least bit of interest in running for POTUS after Bush's terms. I doubt we'll ever again see a pick of someone with that resume AND lack of interest in the big job.
