I had very good luck just taking my alternator (87 carrera) to an alternator specialist. He actually works mostly on marine engines, but he pulled out his trusty catalogue and found he had all the parts to completely rebuild mine. Total cost, including powdercoating the fan was $40. You may want to give this a shot before you fork over the dough.
