No, it doesn't make sense and never will. the community property laws are a little "one size fits all" to work well in situations like this. They assume she did her part by raising the kids. No nanny provision.
10 to 1 she's found another interest. Poor bastard will really hit bottom when that surfaces. Obviously, he has a problem with the 7 mil. He could offer the judge that he will hand over 49% of the shares and continue, or he could sell and start over.
I'd sell, even at a loss, give her what she wants and take off. The other half of that fortune will buy a lot of companionship. Oh, and down the line, I'd take the b!tch back to court after the PI he hires paints a real grim picture and fight that 20K for life. None of these deals lasts for life.
The child support IS his responsibility. She better use it wisely or lose it. Worse case is that he pays until each is 18 YO, which isn't a bad thing.
Also, what really doesn't add up is the alimony AND the settlement. One or the other in my book.
