Fugu
Maybe they did not report that she was taking a mail-order, fugu-chef course to get her certification, and she was giving her hand a try at fugu sashimi, and just did not quite get it cut just right.
One does not recover from post-mortem rigor mortis. Also, it generally does not start in the hands or feet, it does start with the smaller muscles of the face and the head, and works it's way down from there, till full rigor is present. Rigor will then leave the body the same way it had its onset, with the head, then down, and never to return again. Rigor mortis forms in the muscle tissues when they become anoxic, and have increasing levels of other chemicals including Pyruvic and Lactic acids.
Most people that have ever touched a dead body, have only done so when it has already been embalmed and placed in a casket for viewing at a funeral home. They feel that the body is quite firm, and they think that this is rigor mortis... it is not. The reason the body feels "firm" is due to the embalming solutions reaction to the tissues of the body.
As for this woman, I have no personal knowledge of the circumstances, but I highly doubt that actual post-mortem rigor mortis had set in like the family members thought they were seeing. It may have just been muscle spasms, similar to the ones that can occur with a seizure. I believe that the jury is and will be out on the verdict of this reported, so called medical miracle.
Just thought some would like to know.
