There is nothing wrong with the HUMVEE that a hybrid motor install couldn't fix. The Scout variants have always been armored, btw. We called them "Slammers". Of course only light motor units would be using Hummer scouts to begin with. Heavy units use Bradley CFV's and M1A2 Abrams in the scouting role.
WRT a flippable M-1, the engine and trans alone would make that feat impossible, but yeah, armor is by far the heaviest thing on a MBT. It could take a 70 ton Abrams down to maybe 45-50. I bet the tank would cost 5x as much though, and Abrams
aint cheap to begin with.
