I'm not 100% sure why. Anti-Philly sentiment is very common in Toronto, primarily because Philly has entered the league and won the cup a couple times, while Toronto has continued to languish since 1967. But I hate the Leafs, so that's not my reason.
I think it goes back the the Broad Street Bullies days. While successful, I do not beleive it was good for hockey, and that sentiment lingers. Today there are lot of good young players on the team, and I don't hate them, I just like to see them beaten on occassion.
And Bobby Clarke is easy to dislike. I know he's 'gone', but he's always there in the box or onthe radio.
But rest assured, in a Philly vs. Toronto game I am cheering for Philly.
