My condolences, Lube. I grew up with ponies that were more wild than trained, but they were loved and lived for what seemed like forever. Two of them lived into their 30s, that we could document, before passing on. They might have been older, we don't know exactly how old they were when we got them. They died only a year or two apart. It wasn't anything romantic like they couldn't live without each other; they hated each other, it was that they were both too stubborn to die any sooner and they lasted that long. I used to call one of them the immortal Shetland Pony.

They died only a couple of years ago, and as an adult I was terribly sad at their passing and still wish I could pat those old nags on the head, grab their lower lips like they hated me to do while I scratched their ears, which they loved, one more time.

Tell your son he'll never forget his first horse and that Lollipop served her purpose by being his steed. She'll live on in his heart, with my Blackie, Candy and Delilah. Hey, I didn't make up the names. They came that way.
