Man, I would'nt even try that. They once took away one of my mini 5/16" wrenches I had left in my laptop case. The thing was about 4" long. TSA dork looked at me after pulling it out of my bag and said "Don't you know this is a tool?" I looked at him with the biggest grin I could muster and said "Yes". Dope actually asked me if I wanted to ship it! LOL.
I often wonder how long it would take me to disconnect an armrest if I'd only been allowed to carry it on.
