Uh, I managed to get through airport security with a backpack containing nothing but a bowling ball with three feet of heavy duty chain bolted to it and a combination lock on the other end of the chain. I got some very strange looks from the security folks when they pulled it out of the backpack but was only asked to explain what its purpose was. They simply nodded, giggled, and handed it over to me. Then again I,m the guy who walks through customs with a box of cubans sticking out of my backpack returning from Egypt and just get waived through. I figure to play the idiot when it comes to stuff like that and it works great.
I say roll the dice on the tiedowns, just dont piss them off by bringing a full bottle of shampoo or some such nonsense, or heaven forbid a 3/4" long swing out nail file on a nail clipper cause you could really F someone up with that.
