I've worked for both public and private companies and find former MUCH more difficult, challenging and frustrating than the latter. And more important. The Guard Shack Guy works for a private company. His bosses can just dismiss nearly any and all requests for records or information. His bosses get to set their budgets. His company has one goal.....make money.
His public sector counterpart would be a police agency. Those guys have to respect and respond to every single request for information, and there are MANY daily. Their budget is dictated to them. Their Board of Directors includes everyone living in their jurisdiction. And their mandate is to make everyone safe. You see any differences here, and which organization would be easier to run?
Yes, there is a HUGE difference between public sector employment and private sector. It's nice if you're good at your job in the private sector. Mandatory if you're in the public sector, and you'll earn less money.
