Not sure where the tranny is manufactured but it is silky smooth. Better than any newer model Porsche I have ever driven. My 996 is believed to be the only meteor metallic grey unit ordered directly from Porsche as it was a custom option that was quite expensive..about $4300 for the color choice and there were less expensive variations including seal grey for a fraction of the cost.
I much prefer the meteor metallic as it fits the lines of the car perfectly and reminds me of the Aston Martin Vanquish Tungsten Grey paint. It is truly gorgeous. I also have the optional 18' turbo wheels that were ordered as part of the custom build.
