I didn't let it monkey with my original photo's directory so I'm still good there. Actually I believe iPhoto is a mini database application and duplicates all the pictures in it's library folder. True I should have not expected so much from iPhoto...I remember the first time I pointed iTunes to my music folder it moved and renamed thousand mp3 files to a "other" folder named trackWXYZ.mp3
After the fact I found and untoggled the "Let iTunes F***-up your existing music collection". Again I had it all backed up to DVD but still...
All that said I'm still keeping OS X at home. Hopefully once I get past these windows migration issues the software will start to make sense
