there was a hardware failure just at the right time
root cause , is still hardware

you can applaud a pilot for saving the day if he does so

but i don't think they can blame him for the failure to begin with, (unless off course he did something to trigger it, like i dunno , putting the throttle on idle instead of wot... but i assume this was a genuine hardware failure...)
