My wife has recently got me somewhat interested in touring around yard sales early on Saturday mornings. Quite often all you find is other peoples junk but every now and again we come across something that makes our day.
So it was today. We'd been around a few and thought we'd call in to one more on the way home that she'd found listed in the classifieds in the local paper. We pulled up and it was pretty busy but the first thing I spot is a bicycle standing on the lawn. At first I thought it might be one of the neighbours who'd dropped by. Then I saw another leaning against a hedge, another on the drive, and a fourth laying on the grass and noticed that all the tires were flat. I asked if they were part of the sale, which they were, and they gave me a price for one and a second price if I bought all four. I normally negotiate on the first price I'm given but in this instance I accepted straight off.
I know that there are several of you on the board that are into bicycles so I thought that you might get a kick out of these...
Mongoose D40, a bit on the heavy side but not bad
Trek MultiTrack 750 - this has metal studs in the tires.
An early Specialized Stumpjumper with slightly soft Rock Shox. Obviously needs a saddle.
This was what caught my eye first of all. A late 90's Cannondale T1000 with a superb Brooks saddle
They were pretty filthy and still need a good clean but I've gone over them quickly this evening and they seem to be all there and functioning. Worst thing would be that a couple of them might need new tires. Apparently they belonged to the guy's Father but they've been sitting in his shed since he passed away and now he's moving - hence the sale - and he just wanted to get rid of a lot of stuff.
So what do you think would have been a fair price for the four of these?
