I did the ride 4 years in a row- from 96-99. Boy that is dating myself.
Actually, after training in florida the ride itself was pretty easy. The hottest was in 98 or 99, when we finished we took pictures under the thermometer sign at the bank - just past the finish line. 105. The ride was very well organized, and well supported. The topography is boring- you could train by riding your bike in a sauna with a bag over your head. It actually is a pretty easy century- our times were in the 5:15 range each year-nice comfortable no big deal pace. I actually hope to do it again next year- it will celebrate 5 years after surgery and hopefully cancer free.
Have a great time, and let us know your experiences.
If you haven't done it before- get there early. We just rode in from the hotel- less than 5 miles- as parking seems to be an issue. The crits are a hoot to watch.
