On the woofers I first used a similar product to dynamat to dampen basicly every interior surface I could get to including removing the entire interior and going inside doors, under the carpet, etc, big difference!! Then I got a can of great stuff foam and sealed off the forward part of the wells in the back. I then layed fiberglass cloth inside the areas to make an enclosure. I made sure the drains, etc were intact. The tops are MDF w/ the woofer holes cut out and the drivers mounted on the bottom side to allow excursion. The grills were purchased from Parts Express. The tops are then screwed on w/ a foam gasket to seal them. They are probably not totally airtight but the car really sounds good. I bought a new rear carpet from World Upolstery that fits really well. My old one had speaker holes in it from the PO.
The gauge faces were a rip-off. I have tried to block the supplier out of my memory. Basicly for $100 I got a piece of paper that I literally had to cut out w/ scissors and stick over the old gauge faces. I used a scaple to trim it. The final result looks good, it was just a royal PITA. I bought a new oil pressure gauge and clock from North Hollywood Speedo. They will also do the white conversion for you if you send them the cluster.
Good luck w/ the car, a 16V should be very well powered in the older car. Be sure to post pictures.
