While this is true, "things change". Our HOA has "compliance officer". This person has taken it upon herself to be the judge and jury when it comes to issues. It doesn't matter what the covenants say, she writes you up and then you're left to fight it out with the HOA board. My neighbor added a sunroom to his house. It was perfectly in compliance with the covenants - he obtained the proper approvals ahead of time for the plans, etc. and then the complaince Nazi has written him up (after it was completed) saying it didn't meet the standards of the neighborhood (it was built by the same guy that built all of the houses in our neighborhood and IMHO looks perfectly fine and I live next door). They are trying to fine him no for every day he is "not in compliance". He finally got the builder out there and he talked some sense into this woman and they dropped the issue.

It's just nuts.
