I replaced 11 windows in my house with the dual pane aluminum retro-fit windows from home depot. I did the labor myself (about 1 day) and total cost was under $4k and that included a large 8 foot slider.
That $53k quote is waaaaaay out of line. At least double what it should be. Tell em to pack sand.
