Powertrain Problems

When i start my 914 it sounds like its idleing beautifully and it will forever. Problem is that when it reaches 2500-3000rpm it spitters spudders and simply wont go any higher; as if its hit a brick wall and cant push though as hard as it tries.

My carborator tool tells me that at an idle all 4 barrels are sucking evenly, and it starts really easy.

here are my engine specs

2.0L
Dellorto carbs 40mm
009 distributor
clean run on the valves
85-90lb compression (yah low i know)

Thanks in advance
James
