Tail light cleanup>>>

as some of you know, Porsche lenses tend to lose that black edging around the outside as they get older. It is combo of dried gaskets and a little too much sun.

As i am in the process of finalizing the look of my 77s (not going stock), i did not want to spend a fortune on a car that will be gutted and redone later on. Plus, new lenses are not cheap....

With that in mind, i decided to remove and cleanup the tail lenses.......

First off....here is what they look like on the car when i started....note the black edge around the outside is gone...

From there, i removed the lense to see the mess behind it...as this car was rescued from California after sitting for close to 2 yrs without any attention, i am surprised they looked this good..

Next up...i used some Dawn dish washing detergent on the lenses to clean them up...This removes all of the oils, waxes and junk that has accumulated over time..This was followed up by a bit of rubbing alchohol....
The lens cleaned up...

From there...i masked the inside of the lens and trimmed out the areas i did not want "touched up"...

From there, the painting begins....a good enamel makes quick work of it...

Then...re-install.....while it is not perfect...sure looks better then it did. When you are working on big projects, sometimes these little things help motivate you....overall, it looks like it should now...i feel like there is balance in the force!

Note the right side is done....left side is not....

Very easy...and completed in a little over an hour...
