If you clean up the metal where the carpet was and use a good quality contact adhesive spray, taking up the carpet isn't too bad. You can hide wires under the door runner (long black plastic trim piece on bottom door jamb) and tuck them in elsewhere as best you can, but I agree with the 'take the seats out and hide wiring under the carpet' method.
Getting the seat mounting bolts out can require some witchcraft, and be very careful not to cross-thread them when you put them back in. They strip VERY easily.
