I actually watch and like the show (...yes I get RFDTv on my dish) in the morning when I ride the Life Cycle, flipping around from Imus to Sports Center and the Weather Channel. It makes a dull but necessary task reasonable for the 40 minutes I pedal.
I find his show compelling mostly because the early morning guests often make watching the show worthwhile. The list of recurring guests have been great: The late Tim Russert, Tom Friedman, Pat Buchanan, Betchloss, Doris Goodwin, Dick Gregory, Joe Lieberman etc.
After listening to him interview Buchanan on his latest book,
Churchill, Hitler, and "The Unnecessary War": How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World I was so enthralled with his historical perspective I bought the book and it is great.
If the guest doesn't appeal to me, I change the channel.
Was his comment racist? I don't think so mainly because I have listened to him over the past months and believe he was being sarcastic...he has gone out of his way to discuss stereotyping from both minority and white perspectives.
That is my opinion....others may have a different take but I frankly don't care. What scares me more than anything is the rush to accuse someone who, while it may have not come off as intended, was exercising a fundamental right.
